On November 19, 2024, Asst. Prof. Zeng Yiwen participated in AlterCOP 29, a parallel climate event focused on critical conversations beyond the official UN COP negotiations. The session, titled “Biodiversity, Carbon Markets & Nature-Based Solutions”, brought together researchers, policy experts, and practitioners to explore the intersections between biodiversity conservation and climate finance.
The panel highlighted how Nature-Based Solutions—such as protecting forests and restoring ecosystems—can contribute not only to climate mitigation but also to preserving biodiversity and supporting local livelihoods. The discussion emphasized the need for more transparent, inclusive, and equitable carbon markets, as well as stronger safeguards to ensure that climate interventions benefit both people and nature.
This engagement reflects the lab’s commitment to advancing science-based, socially responsible strategies for biodiversity conservation and climate action in Southeast Asia and beyond.
